Pfizer Arrests Sought in Nigeria

A Nigerian court has issued three arrest warrants for Pfizer staff members over an alleged illegal drugs trial in 1996.

Pfizer has been accused of killing 11 children and injuring 181 others when an antibiotic called Tovan was tested on them during a meningitis epidemic. Pfizer has denied the claim, and challenged the jurisdiction of the court.

The three accused had all previously been served summonses to appear before the court. But according to the judge, they have not appeared “either out of neglect, disrespect or contempt."

The case has been adjourned until January 29, 2008.
